After a very successful ten hours of celebrating Mardi Gras yesterday, we came home with time to make a healthy dinner and watch the primary debate. If this isn’t adulthood I don’t know what is. It’s about balance, you know.

Yesterday really was such a great day, and if you want to see all the photos and read a bit about the Mardi Gras schedule we’ve stuck to over the years, you can see the blog post right here.

And now back to real life again! As with every day-after-a-holiday, tuning back into reality has been hard this morning. I keep trying to plan out the multiple projects we have coming up, but my mind can’t focus straight. It happens. I’ve learned not to fight it—take it slow and let my mind race around between tasks and headlines and online window shopping.

The rest of this week is going to be pretty uneventful, and I’m fine with that—especially because we leave next week for a fun few days in Los Angeles and Seattle! We need to work on a few blog posts, deal with a few adult things like taxes and talks with a lender, and tackle all the laundry. And figure out how to remove lipstick smudges from my neck (part of my Cupid costume), because they don’t seem to be budging. I hope that whatever you’ve got planned for the week ahead, it goes well! I’ll be keeping it short and sweet today as writing this has reminded me that there actually are a lot of e-mails and other things to get to, but please see weekly reading below for a few favorites from around the web :)

Weekly Reading

First: Love seeing some of the most popular Mardi Gras krewes and dance troupes featured in Vogue! How Women Are Creating a More Inclusive Mardi Gras (via Vogue)

Second: And with Mardi Gras over, today starts 40 days of Lent. Lent is kind of a big deal in New Orleans, which is a super Catholic city. Even folks who aren’t necessarily religious at all may still observe as a cultural tradition. I’m mostly excited for the Friday fish fries and crawfish boils. Matt’s giving up alcohol, I’m giving up other people’s bullshit. Why Do People Fast For Lent? (via Vox)

Then: If all this talk of New Orleans and traditions has got you wanting to experience a slice of the culture for yourself, may we suggest: Classic Red Beans & Rice (via Probably This)

Also also: This week’s favorites, health and fitness edition. Currently adding lots of this fit plant protein from Whole Foods to our post-workout smoothies. The French Vanilla is so good, and it doesn’t have a weird gritty texture like a lot of other plant proteins we’ve tried. About once a week I’ve been taking baths with this epsom salt to help sore muscles. I think it’s been helping, but it’s also just an added excuse to take a hot bath. Afterwards I tend to be super relaxed and sleepy, so I’d recommend using it in the evenings!

Finally: This felt like meditation, and you might like it! A Photographer’s Guide to ‘Slow Seeing’ The Beauty In Everyday Nature (via NPR) Breathe in, breathe out, oh look at these branches.
