At Home Morning Wellness Routine

This post is in partnership with Pantene. As always, all opinions are our own.

The past few weeks have obviously been anything but normal, but we’ve been keeping our cool by balancing something resembling our normal routine with the understandable need to be flexible and indulgent in these weird times. It turns out that stressed Beau and Matt turn to rom coms and chocolate, and like a lot of both. And also I did put a tiny whole lot of vodka in my bedtime tea the other day. But when we haven’t been getting our television binges in, we’ve been doing our best to stick to routine, and that’s been pretty useful in maintaining our mental health. You’ve probably seen us posting plenty about at-home workouts, and sticking to daily fitness has kept things from getting too dark over here. We’ve also stuck to keeping our meals healthy and balanced, and we’re still on our post-workout protein smoothie game.

Below I’ve got what our daily morning routine looks like, but I want to stress that when the going gets tough, it’s okay to break routine if you’re not feeling your best or even just don’t feel like it. Think of keeping a routine as more of a goal to keep yourself in good health, but not as something rigid and limiting. Breaking your routine doesn’t mean failure, and sometimes breaking it can be just as critical to your self-care as sticking to it! So if you wanna sleep in until 9:30 or even later, watch an episode of Westworld in the middle of the day, or eat a full bag of tater tots for dinner in the name of mental maintenance, let yourself have that. You can always jump right back in.

7:30 a.m. Coffee & Tea Time

Coffee time is the most sacred time of the day and we’ve perfected it. We both do a pour-over coffee to enjoy while waking up, scrolling through the news, and planning out our work tasks for the day ahead. Since we live and work together, we’ll often just write out a schedule each morning so we’re on the same page. Lately, after my cup of coffee, I’ll drink a stress relief tea with a little bit of CBD, which I’ve found to really help calm my nerves and prepare me for a productive morning.

9:00 a.m. Workout Time

After coffee, tea, and scheduling the day, it’s time for a workout. We’ve been getting extremely creative with the workouts we do at home, relying on equipment we have around the house: yoga mat, kettlebells, and ab roller. Between CrossFit, hot yoga, and weight lifting, we used to be pretty regimented about which days we worked which body parts… but our workout-from-home life has given us the freedom to randomly select a workout video or livestream to follow, and get right to it. It’s been pretty nice to challenge ourselves to stay creative and try new and sometimes totally random exercises, and I think it’s something we’ll continue to do even once everything clears up! You can read our whole blog post about at-home-workout resources right here.

10:00 a.m. Shower or Bath

Another sacred time of day! Anyone who works from home with their significant other will tell you how important shower time is, because sometimes it’s the only personal space you’ll get all day. Matt’s been taking occasional Epsom salt baths to help with stress relief and muscle relaxation, and I’m more strictly a shower person. Lately I’ve been using Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection—specifically the Hair Volume Multiplier with Bamboo shampoo & conditioner, and I absolutely love the way it makes my hair feel and how relaxing it makes a steamy shower. The one I’m using is “bamboo” which works to add volume to the hair. I’m growing my hair out and this helps add a little extra volume to my natural waves. For the past year or so we’ve been trying to be better about replacing our personal care products with better-for-us items, so this one being free of silicone, parabens, dyes, and mineral oils gives it an A+ from us. Also, did I mention it smells amazing? Because it smells amazing. The Nutrient Blends Collection features shampoos and conditioners with ingredients inspired from different parts of the world, but you can check out the Bamboo shampoo and conditioner right here! I’m planning on checking out the rose water one next. ;)

10:30 a.m. smoothie

Finally, after coffee and planning the day and working out and a shower, it’s time for a protein smoothie. I’ve been making some variation of this same smoothie for a couple of years now and have never gotten tired of it. It’s just a strawberry/banana/peanut butter situation that tastes amazing and keeps me full. I’ve included the recipe below for ya if you want to make it for yourself!

Post-workout Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 banana

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries

  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter

  • 1-2 scoops vanilla protein powder of choice (based on your protein needs)

  • 1 1/2 cups oat milk or almond milk

  • Stevia to taste

Blend it all together and enjoy!
