Our Colorado Cabin Getaway

We had the most beautiful time in Colorado this past week! Our home was a charming and spacious little cabin with soaring windows at the end of a road up a mountain, so secluded and beautiful and exactly what we wanted. We drank all of the beer from little breweries in the mountains, visited two of Matt’s cousins who moved to the area during The Panini, went antiquing in Evergreen, and explored the gorgeous mountains around Vail (and had lunch at El Segundo in Vail Village—so cute!).

We spent time in the little strip of road known as downtown Idaho Springs, enjoying coffee and learning all about Gold Rush Culture. We got a hot tip to try out Smokin’ Yards BBQ and it was so incredibly satisfying. The smoked turkey sandwich was topped with mashed potatoes and gravy which made it both totally impractical to eat and also Very Good—there’s an image of it at the very bottom of this post because you have to see what this thing looked like.

We had originally thought we might take a day trip to go skiing but decided this trip was less of an adventure trip and more of a sightsee and drink and hangout fireside kinda trip. But now we want to go back in the winter for a ski trip, so we’ll see! We tried to stay off our phones as much as possible and it’s actually pretty nice that there are only a handful of pictures from a whole week spent in a gorgeous place—sometimes it’s best to just, uh, enjoy it. What an idea!

We got a lot of questions about the cabin we stayed in, so here’s all that info: it’s a 3 bedroom / 2 bath cabin that is fairly new. It’s quiet enough to where you get to enjoy the nature all around you (including the most picturesque creek!) but not secluded in a murdery way thanks to a decent spattering of neighbors. It’s about 15 minutes from downtown Idaho Springs, so you’re like forty minutes to Denver if you drive East, an hour and some change to most of the big ski resorts further West, and not far from several little mountain towns like Evergreen and Conifer, which made it the perfect homebase for our stay. If we were going to be making a ski trip out of it, we’d have wanted somewhere closer to Breckenridge because it’s a little bit of a drive, but the proximity to Denver was great, and we got to explore new-to-us areas like Golden, which has a quaint downtown area and is famous for being home to the Coors brewery.

If you want to book the same cabin, here ya go! Creekside Log Cabin in Idaho Springs. More images below for your viewing pleasure :)
