Introducing: Housewarming

We wrote a whole dang book! No lie!

Housewarming has been in the works for two years now and oh my god we are so excited to be able to finally share it with you. We’ve worked on it through all of the weirdness of the last two years, while living in a construction site AKA our current home renovation, and haven’t really said anything about it because 1.) we wanted it to be a surprise and 2.) we were kinda in disbelief the entire time that we were writing a freaking book that people would allegedly want to read!!!

And it’s available for pre-order NOW! It’s being published by Abrams Books (paws up for Abrams—thanks for believing in our vision!) this spring and can be ordered anywhere books are sold.

This book is so special to us because it encapsulates the last eight years of our lives together before we bought our first home, wherein we’d lived in quite the variety of apartments that all presented their own challenges, and had budget and lease restrictions that often felt like barriers to us having a home we loved. Housewarming gives you the tools we’ve picked up over the years to create something special and perfect-for-you within your four walls regardless of your circumstances, whether it’s a bedroom in an apartment you rent, your first home purchase, or if you want to bring new life into a space you’ve lived in and loved on for years.

And to be clear, this isn’t just a design book, no ma’am! We cover everything from creating and curating your space to building a tool collection for your very own DIY projects to preparing food and drink for gatherings once it’s complete. In fact, it’s divided in three sections: Design, DIY, and Entertaining—basically the first section helps you come up with a plan for creating your space’s aesthetic and function, the second section gives you DIY projects and skills to make the vision you came up with happen regardless of your budget, and the third section is for when your space is ready to welcome guests, with cocktail recipes, a beginner’s guide to wine, favorite recipes from our kitchen, and tablescaping tips.

And it’s so freaking cute y’all. We had the most amazing illustrator, Stephanie Singleton, create beautiful illustrations that are sprinkled throughout the book and make it such a fun read. There are 150 photographs, taken by us and our incredibly talented contributing photographer, Augusta Sagnelli, that give you something beautiful to look at whenever you tire of us talking.

Throughout the book you’ll find illustrations by the remarkably talented Stephanie Singleton, who took our whimsical and sometimes Very Dumb ideas (like two bottles of wine enjoying a wine dinner) and made them into adorable and exciting pieces of art that make this book feel so complete.

We worked with photographer Augusta Sagnelli to capture many of the images for Housewarming, like this cheese plate we tore to shreds after shooting, and we absolutely adore each and every photograph of hers in this book.

Just like on this blog, we keep our method simple—whether it’s designing a space, making a recipe, or tackling a DIY project, we want anyone who reads this book to be able to actually do something with it. If you’ve been a reader of the blog for a while, it’ll feel familiar and similar to how we’ve shared all of our projects and adventures in life, and if you’re brand new to us, well, we’re praying that you find us endearing and not annoying!

Thank you for being here with us, and we hope you enjoy flipping through Housewarming as much as we enjoyed creating it for you. You can pre-order your copy here, or anywhere books are sold.

Love,

Beau & Matt
