My dopamine is flowing. My will to live has returned. The glimmer in my eye? It’s back, baby.

I know what you’re thinking, but no I’m not on ketamine – I’m just so happy it’s finally sweater weather!!!

I really do think I have some sort of seasonal depression tied to summer and hot weather, and every October I’m reminded I am in fact capable of experiencing joy after four long months of feeling like a shell of a human. My seasonal funk isn’t nearly as bad in the milder summers of the Tennessee mountains as it was in New Orleans, but it’s still there, lurking in my emotional psyche somewhere between the pain I felt the first time I was called a gay slur and the joy I experienced saying “I do” to my husband.

All that to say: this time of the year is incredibly important to me, and I always find it a time to celebrate by treating myself. Pretty much every year I buy one new sweater, sometimes Matthew and I both do, and it always feels so luxe. Buying a high quality sweater you know you’ll have for years is my way of showing myself a little love, and I’ve made an annual tradition of it! I’ve now got sweaters that I absolutely adore dating back seven or eight years, each one acting as a relic from the year it was purchased, and each one still finding its way into my wardrobe every fall and winter.
