Probably This Picks: Abercrombie Spring
One of the first times I ever had my own money I walked into Lakeside Mall and felt like God. I had cash! I had no responsibilities! The world was my oyster and I was hungry for a seafood platter! I declared to myself I was there for a “shopping spree” (I smelled a lot of cologne, bought earphones for my iPod at Macy’s, and walked around the food court (???) with my one friend).
There were two stores I was intimidated to go in to (this sounds insane, but, here we are): Abercrombie and Hollister. The models. The mannequins. The smells. The darkness. Was that any place for a chubby gay 13 year old to be (yes).
I was so stricken with fear that I didn’t even end up going in to either of them my first trip, but later on grew comfortable with my place in the mall and ventured in. It wasn’t as scary as I’d imagined.
I slowly started incorporating pieces from Abercrombie into my wardrobe. Shorts that were too long, graphic tees that were too tight. And they remained a staple for a while, until one day, after years of closet clean outs, I had not a single Abercrombie piece in my closet.
For an while I had a hard time finding stuff from them fit my personal style!
Over the last decade the brand has seemingly grown up with its original audience, and now has a really impressive selection of clothes without words on them, to be worn by adults with normal bodies. And I love it!
It’s fun to have more Abercrombie pieces in our closet, and when I began doing a little online shopping for the spring I found myself adding so much to my cart.
Below is a sampling of some of the spring & summer shirts currently in my cart in case you want some style advice from an old school and new school Abercrombista!
