Sparkling Elderflower & Honey Lemonade: Low-Proof Batch Cocktail for Our Nashville Housewarming Happy Hour!

A light, bright, and sparkly day-drinking sipper that won’t knock you down on your cute little butt! We’ve basically made the #slowliving version of a Mike’s Hard Lemonade, and it’s the best thing ever for enjoying at a picnic or, very specifically, our Housewarming Happy Hour on July 30th at The Bookshop in Nashville at 2 p.m. [1043 West Eastland Ave in Nashville, TN]! We’ll be serving it up and signing your books and taking all the selfies!

We’re very excited about this Housewarming Happy Hour because it’s the last one for a whole month, and the last stop on our tour of Southern book stores! (Our very very last event on the tour is back in New Orleans on August 28th—a drag brunch hosted by Poppy Tooker which will have us as special guests, sharpies in hand to sign your copies of Housewarming) We’ll also have sort of an entourage on this stop! Three of our best friends in the world—Hayli of LaCroix Kitchen fame, and fellow internet-home-stuff-duo PJ & Thomas—will all be caravaning with us up to Nashville. Rumor has it there may be a night of karaoke following the signing? I will be watching.

Anyhow, back to the lemonade! It’s super low-proof with the only alcohol content coming from the elderflower liqueur. If you did want to spice things up a bit you could add gin or vodka or just turn to page 245 of Housewarming to find our Spring Sangria, which is the higher proof beverage that inspired this one.

This lemonade’s primary sweetener is honey, and the honey really does come through! Between the lemon and honey and floral notes from the elderflower liqueur, it tastes very… relaxing… almost like a health tonic brewed up by your cool witchy aunt? But not.

Check out the recipe below and give it a try, and come see us in Nashville on July 30th!

Sparkling Elderflower & Honey Lemonade

serves 6

  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 1 cup 1:1 honey syrup (add 1/2 cup honey to 1/2 boiling water, stir until disolved)

  • 1 cup St Germaine Elderflower liqueur

  • 2 sprigs Basil or mint + more for garnish

  • 1 (25 oz) bottle sparkling mineral water

  • Ice

Combine the lemon juice, honey syrup, elderflower liqueur, and basil or mint; stir to combine (you can slightly muddle the herbs to release more of their flavor!). Add sparkling water and ice, and serve!
