Hello! The whole point of this weekly email is to recap the last seven days or so, but to be honest I can’t remember what day it is or whether something happened two days ago or two weeks ago, so let’s dive in!
I thought we could touch on a few lighthearted topics, mostly just politics, sex, and religion.
First of all, as most of y’all know we’ve always been Sanders supporters and love his mission to put people over profits when it comes to politics. Seeing him suspend his campaign was gut-wrenching but expected (kinda like a trip to Taco Bell but less tasty!). So now we’ll be supporting the 70-something accused sex offender running for office. No, not Trump, the other one. We’ll vote for Biden because of the potential a Democrat has to shape the cabinet and courts, and we encourage other Sanders supporters to do the same.
The positive in all this? Progressive values have infiltrated the mainstream on some level, and just like with drag brunches and twerking, even parts of Straight White America have come to call them their own. The increased popularity of things like universal healthcare—and even recently unthinkable concepts like universal basic income—will be super useful in pushing us forward.
Alrighty, that’s the politics bit. And I was just kidding about talking about sex, my mom reads these, sheesh! But I feel fine talking about religion.
It’s Easter this Sunday! How my family celebrates has looked different over the years, but Matt’s family always has a big dinner and I’m bummed that’s not going to happen. If you’re missing out on family celebrations, or church if that’s your thing, or the huge Gay Easter Parade that happens every Easter Sunday in the French Quarter (lots of great hats!), I’m sorry if this first holiday we collectively spend in quarantine makes you feel even more lonely than usual. I know it will for us. But, staying home now means getting to spend more time together later, so channel that energy, think of what you *wish* you could be doing, and act on that once we’re allowed to come within six feet of each other again. And FaceTime your loved ones in the meantime.
Between weighing my morals, contemplating a bleak future, and binge-watching Ozark, we’ve been working on a really yummy recipe for fried eggplant medallions that can be used in place of meatballs with spaghetti and red sauce, or atop a pile of hummus with fluffy pita bread! It it so good. Check our Instagram on Saturday for that recipe. We also completed our DIY Rainbow Desk Backdrop, which we’re completely in love with. The colors are so us, and it made our desk actually fun to sit at again. You can check that out right here :)
Weekly links below as always, friends!
