Exploring Maine with Tom's of Maine
This post is in partnership with Tom’s of Maine. As always, all opinions are our own.
Well so in case you didn’t know, Maine is absolutely stunning. Like wowza. We had two days in the town of Kennebunkport and the surrounding area. We stayed in the CUTEST little cabin and had fireside wine and cozy dinners and got to live a full blown fall fantasy.
We went on this trip to learn more about Maine and Tom’s of Maine, one of our favorite natural personal care brands. We’ve partnered with them for the past six months or so, and getting to meet the actual team behind the brand was a real treat.
There were a few key takeaways from this trip. For instance: clam chowder is the best liquid and lobster rolls are the best carb.
But also, we learned all about Tom’s of Maine and why they’re basically the most amazing company ever. They give 10% of total annual profits to programs that benefit various environmental and social causes, which is amazing. On our factory tour (during which Matt had to wear a beard net over his face which I thought was funny), we saw first hand how they partner with local farms to compost their factory waste that would normally go to a landfill. AND, their employees can go volunteer in the community on company time. Like part of their paid working hours can be used to volunteer. Very very cool. You can learn more about their dedication to doing good right here.
One of the coolest parts of this trip was that we got major sneak peaks into some upcoming products, including one wildly progressive change that’s going to be huge for the entire personal care industry. Keep your eyes out for one big announcement in mid-November and one in the new year! They made us sign one of those NDA thingies which means if I talk about it they can sue me for all I’m worth (and I really don’t want to lose the $5 I have stashed in savings so you’ll just have to wait!!). But, think along the lines of Tom’s of Maine’s environmentally responsible efforts and you might just be able to imagine what it is yourself.
Between all the product sneak peaks and factory tours and lobster, we got to spend tons of time with the rest of the Goodness Circle, which is a team of bloggers that Tom’s of Maine works with who try out and share their products. Everyone was lovely!
I think my favorite activity was volunteering to plant shrubs that will help build new habitat for the endangered New England cottontail. Matt dug the holes and I planted the shrubs in them and between us and the rest of the team we got almost 300 shrubs planted which is 300 more shrubs than I’ve ever planted in my entire life!!!
Overall it was an incredible trip and got us even more excited to be partnering with a company we have so much respect for. And now we need to move to Maine.
Thanks for stopping by the blog! If you’re new to Tom’s of Maine and want to know more, I’d encourage you to check out their website or shoot us an email :)
