Our Top 5 Favorites: Gifts for the Homemaker

We love gifts, and we love homemaking. So we’re like super qualified to write this listicle so everybody listen up!!! Our criteria for the below items are pretty simple: they have to add actual utility and value to the recipient’s life and home (i.e. shouldn’t be clutter), they must be either small, discreet, or easily stored, and they need to ship within a week BECAUSE HELLO IT’S DECEMBER 9TH OMG HURRY HONEY!!

A few general tips for shopping for your favorite homemaker:

  • As with everyone—it’s OK to ask what they want (you can even do it through a third party). If you know they love cooking but don’t know what kitchen tools or cookbook they’ve been eyeing, feel free to directly ask them OR start a conversation that will get that info out of them without them being any wiser to it!

  • While we typically stay away from gift cards for giving…if your favorite homemaker has a store they absolutely love (for Beau, it was always Williams Sonoma) a gift card to that store may actually be such a great gift. It feels personal because it’s their favorite store, and it gives them an excuse to run wild and maybe splurge on something they’ve been wanting or get something they normally wouldn’t shell out for.

  • We talk about this further below, but, in general stay away from gifting things that are required to be on display like art, pillows, mirrors, etc. Lots of us homemaker types are particular and we don’t want to make you feel bad when you come by the house and find the piece of art you gave us in the GUEST BEDROOM CLOSET.

OK that’s all let’s go!!

Living Architecture Coffee Table Book

We recommend it for: the designer

Price: $65

There are a lot of great items to give design lovers, but decor is not one of them! We don’t recommend gifting art, wall hangings, throw pillows, etc.—anything that affects a space’s aesthetic—to folks who take their home design seriously. You may miss the mark but still put them in a weird situation where they have to put the thing on display to avoid hurting your feelings!! One great gift for these folks is the gift of inspiration, and we think coffee table books are perfect for this—gorgeous enough to be put out on display, small enough to be put in storage or on a shelf without taking up much space, while still speaking to their love of decor and design.
