See Ya 2020
Another year is over and it was mostly terrible for all the reasons you already know, but here’s some of the stuff that happened to us this trip around the sun! We have a little gallery of our favorite moments and then some more words after that, so keep scrolling sweetie :)
Santa Fe!! We started the year off with an adventure—visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico. We ate “Christmas” enchiladas and drank wine by the fire that left our clothes smelling like smoke but in a nice way. We visited a Japanese-style hot springs spa that was covered in snow and subjected our bodies to the weird yo-yo of getting in and out of hot water in freezing cold temps. We visited art galleries and shops and gathered inspiration for future recipes and home design. Most importantly, we were able to spend a week hunkered down writing our book proposal, which later got shopped around and sold in June!! More on that another time, but the year really got started off on a high note.
We dived further into our super intense hot yoga and CrossFit routines and then watched them slip away in March, slowly fading into home workouts, and then into nothingness! Now we’re happy if we do pushups and take a long walk. That’s okay.
My hair grew out long and wild during the months of darkness! I perfected a red sauce recipe!
We learned how to TikTok and were greeted with an army of sweeties who enjoy our recipes and try our DIY projects and take design inspo from us and we’re so grateful for that little community, it’s really so great.
We bought a home! Having a place of our own has provided the perfect project for us to focus on. We redesigned three whole sections of the house, hired an architect to draw plans, hired a contractor, and tackled some huge DIY refreshes of our own. So many DIYs. So much saw dust. So much painting.
Matt grew his tool collection and apparently can kind of build things now!
We fell in love with our new neighborhood. We learned which dogs will bark at you in a cute way and which ones will bark at you in a scary way. We tried the fried shrimp po’ boys at the corner store and gave them an A++ rating. We figured out which wine of the five wines at the local market is our favorite (the nebbiolo) and we drank it on a few arbitrarily scheduled date nights. Fox picked out exactly which bushes he likes to pee on.
We had Weird Holidays like everyone else—Halloween smelled like hand-sanitizer and sitting on the front porch distantly waving at the few neighborhood kids who walked by. Thanksgiving tasted the same but was tiny, just seeing one mom and one brother for outdoors distance meals. Christmas was very special because we decorated the house for the first time since moving in and there was lots of glowy lights and red wine.
We got engaged Christmas morning! After almost eight years of dancing around each other while moving through life Matt asked the question, and I said yes, and the glowy lights on the Christmas tree got blurry from all the happy tears.
Thank you for joining us on this weird trip of a year. I know it’s been… a lot! But we love you and are sending our best most distanced warm hugs to you and yours.
xoxo Beau & Matt
