Financial Real Talk: Tax Season

HR BLOCK

This post is in partnership with H&R Block. As always, all opinions are our own.

The single best piece of advice we got when our blog started to earn real income (when it became more of a business than a hobby) was this: work with professionals for everything financial or legal. While this would’ve been super useful to follow even just for personal finances, we’re so so so thankful we took the advice when we did. Sure there are programs and software that let you DIY your way through complex systems for personal and business finances, but working with professionals has saved us so much headache, so much time, and in the end it’s surely saved us from expensive mistakes. So whether we’re setting up an LLC, reviewing contracts, or filing taxes, we make sure to get real human experts on the job.

When H&R Block reached out about their virtual Tax Pro Go program, we honestly had a moment of doubt because of past bad experiences with online tax filing software. Before starting a business and learning the benefits of hiring professionals, we’d used programs that were confusing, with tons of hidden fees every step of the way, and “help” menus that were not at all helpful. So we had all that in mind when we got started. But we were so wrong.

Here’s the rundown of how it works: when you first open the website on your desktop or mobile device, you’re asked to choose what type of filing you need and you’re presented with the price upfront. It’s a flat fee, which means there aren’t hidden costs later on, which, yes thank you very much. You pick your plan, enter in some basic info and your location, and you’re matched with a living and breathing human tax professional. Like, a real person. You can call them and everything! Upload your documents and discuss any questions via secure messaging or a call, and a few days later you’ll receive a draft to review and sign. Then you pay your fixed fee and you’re done. So easy, so not-confusing, so worth it, and you never have to leave home, or even the couch for that matter. With the time saved from using Tax Pro Go, you can focus on more exciting elements of growing your own small business, or just take a much needed TV binge break. It’s all around just great, and comes at a cost that won’t break the bank.

We were honestly overall so impressed with Tax Pro Go, and we’re glad to see there’s something out there that is both super convenient and also truly helpful. Filing taxes obviously isn’t fun, and it can be so freaking intimidating, but this program minimizes time spent and removes all the confusion and intimidation by setting you up with an experienced pro—virtually—who can help you along the way.

We’d mentioned on Instagram that we were going to be doing more deep dives into finance talk, especially surrounding freelance world and running a small business, so keep an eye out for it—and if you have any specific topics you’d love covered, comment below or shoot us a message!

Thanks for stopping by the blog!
