Spooky season is here! Halloween will be our first holiday in our new home and our first Halloween living in a neighborhood with lots of kids, so we were stoked to get our Halloween decorations all set. It took us a second to find the right balance between “fun spooky” and “terrifying spooky”—you know, making sure we don’t completely terrify the adorable kids across the street. I had to return several quarts of fake blood but I think we succeeded!

We used pumpkins and gourds to create a natural fall vibe, and Matt made a ghost & pumpkin garland out of card stock for a cute factor. We also included some classics like webs and spiders, and brought it all to life with a few of our Amazon Devices.

We put Halloween-themed string lights around the perimeter of our large living room windows and plugged them into an Amazon Smart Plug so we could set them up on voice control and to turn on as part of a routine.

Our porch is already set up with Philips Hue multicolor light bulbs, so we were able to change the color to a ghoulish red for a little added ~spook~. We created an Alexa Routine with our Echo Dot (check out the all new dot here!) where all we say is “Alexa make it spooky” and the lights come right on to showcase the decor.

We kept the decorations to the front of the house only, but the whole time we were getting it all set up we talked about how much fun it will be whenever we have kids to just have Halloween decorations creeping throughout the home. Like, a little haunted house in the spare room brought to life with these devices would be incredible. One day!

We’ve got more photos of our spooky set up below for you. Have a happy Halloween!

xoxo Beau & Matt
