Our Date with a Sneaky Pickle
If we were Urbanspoon we would file Sneaky Pickle under "places to go whenever you want to eat cheap and also feel like you're at grandma's house but also don't want to talk to grandma but also have locavore-vegetarian tendencies and sometimes like to try some weird shit that you maybe didn't think would be good but then you're like wow that's soooooo good I'm obvi dumb."
This is one of our first posts under "Probably Outings," our way of showing you our favorites places to eat, hang, drink wine, and explore! This post isn't sponsored or anything, we just really REALLY love Sneaky Pickle!
Reasons we luv it:
- Chef/owner Ben uses mostly local ingredients.
- There's usually one meat and it's always dank as hell (today it was lamb cheeks!!).
- You can get five things for like $30.
- The menu changes on the regular so we can go every. single. day.
- Atmosphere: bohemian New Orleans grandma vibes.
What we ate:
Bowl of Food // This is a signature dish that is a bowl (go figure) of seasonal grains, veggies (sometimes sweet potato fries - holy shit), and greens. Today it was a curried coconut milk rice thingy with watermelon, leafy greens, and herbs. We were kind of iffy on having warm watermelon in a dish but it honestly made us go "mmmmMMmm."
Lamb Cheek Flatbread // Tender, juicy lamb with a fresh and crunchy slaw on a warm chewy house-made flatbread. Ben always has a meat flatbread option on the menu that changes frequently to highlight whatever local meats are available. Usually this is our fave thing.
Seasonal Salad // Also changes (surprise) seasonally! We had one with heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, some delicious greens, and a white balsamic vinaigrette, topped off with some nutritional yeast. The tomatoes were so good, especially these tiny little dark ones that tasted a lot like basil.
Fried Pickled Pepper and Tofu Salad // Is there much to be said? We were devastated when Ben took his buffalo tofu salad off the menu, but this lil gem quickly filled that void in our hearts. It's deliciously crispy and covered in what may be the literal best pesto dressing ever created.
T.L.T. // Like a B.L.T., but with tempeh instead of bacon. Comes on some v yummy toasted bread and covered in a creamy chipotle sauce.
