Hi. I turned 28 this past weekend! Thank you for all the sweet messages and comments y’all sent. It’s really weird and sweet to have thousands of people who follow along on this blog and our Instagram reaching out to wish me a happy birthday, and it definitely brightened up my day.

Turning 28 isn’t very exciting. I’m not 30 yet (even though everyone keeps reminding me how close I am to it), and I’m definitely not 21 (my forehead tells me so), so I’m just kind of in this in between age where I don’t feel fully taken seriously, but I’m also not at all a “young adult.” Just a regular adult. Weird.

Growing up I hated having my birthday so close to Christmas (2-in-1 gifts, ugh) but honestly now it’s kinda fun because when everyone else is done with the holidays we still get an extra little celebration to cap it off. Case in point, Beau surprised me and organized a weekend stay with the folks at The Louie, a guest house in the Marigny neighborhood.

Ever since we moved to our new town a little outside of New Orleans, we’ve been craving a staycation back in the city, and… holy shit y’all, this place was amazing. Every single detail was perfect. Oh and … they had homemade cheesecake waiting for me which is pretty much the only dessert I truly love, so, yeah, they’ve got a special place in my heart now.

We got so much design inspiration from this place. Every room was perfectly decorated but completely cozy at the same time.We spent my birthday hanging out around the guest house admiring it and then taking that design inspo to go consignment shopping for a media table—unsuccessfully, but it was still a fun outing. Then we grabbed dinner with a few of my closest friends at Paladar 511 (very very very good), and ended the night with karaoke at Kajun’s Pub with a bunch more friends. It was the perfect blend of low-key and rowdy. I sang “Goodbye Earl.” There was champagne. I was asleep by midnight. I had no hangover the next day. It was a birthday miracle.

Beau also got me this wallet from Coach for my birthday, which was so sweet and so extra. I’d been eyeing down his black leather Ralph Lauren zip wallet for the last two months and craving my own “long wallet” because I never have enough space in traditional men’s wallets for credit cards / ID cards / cash etc. and the boy came THROUGH with this gorgeous leather number. I told him thanks, I love it, but I guess now I need a bag to carry it around in too, right? Dropping hints early for next year. 😇

Thanks again for all the birthday wishes, it truly was a fantastic one! Hope you all have a great week ahead of you.

xoxo, Matt
