Fall Baking with the Echo Show
This post is in partnership with Amazon Devices. All opinions are our own!
Y’all. Hollllly heck. OK so we had a full day in New York a couple weeks ago where we learned all about new Amazon Devices & Services and it left us both shook. We already use our Amazon Echo to tell us the weather and to dim our lights and to help settle our arguments over pop culture history with her endless stream of knowledge.
“Alexa, what year did Liza Minelli star in Cabaret?”
Turns out it was 1972 and one of us (Beau) was off by two decades. There! Settled!
But there’s so much more that can be done besides simple (but useful) tasks and info. We learned how to set Routines, which is a series of settings that can be activated with one command. So, you could say “Alexa, good morning” and have her read out the weather, start playing NPR, turn on the lights, and start the coffee machine all at once. And you can create your own routines so the options are basically limitless.
We learned how some of the products like the Echo Show make video calls way more pleasant (then, say, holding a jerky phone five inches from your face), and can be used to stream cooking demos in the kitchen.
We also got a sneak peak of some really cool upcoming products like the wireless Echo Buds that have incredible sound quality and are Alexa-enabled, so you can talk to her whenever you need. The Echo Buds have a noise reduction option which worked incredibly well to block out outside noise, but also a pass-through mode which allows you to hear music AND your surroundings (to make walking and biking that much safer).
Once we got home and unboxed our Echo Show, we thought we’d use it for our favorite cozy breakfast—cinnamon rolls. With maple icing. With lots of maple icing.
We asked Alexa to pull up a recipe and then she built a shopping list for us on the spot. Once we had that ready to go, we could even watch step-by-step video tutorials for making them! And look, tbh, we’re pros at making cinnamon rolls and have a recipe we already love, but this was such a fun and interactive way to go about it and would be incredibly helpful to anyone new to baking or who just likes a more hands-on guide for recipes.
While we were making the rolls I asked Alexa things like “Alexa, how many grams of wheat flour are in one cup” and “Alexa, please pull up Amazon’s offering for mixing bowls” which she could do super quickly before going back to the recipe. It was incredibly convenient.
We’ll be testing out more of Amazon’s devices, services and features over the next couple of months and can’t wait to show y’all how we use them to really make our house the ultimate futuristic oasis we’ve always dreamed of.
Alexa, tell these dear readers thank you for stopping by the blog today!
