A Day in Marfa
A day in Marfa? Ok before we even get into this post, it's just gotta be said you're going to probably want to schedule more than a single day in Marfa. But, we're historically bad at planning things (literally don't know what's for dinner and it's 6 p.m.) so we only had a day. But, look, we're coming back in like a month because that's a thing that needs to happen.
Ok, so, Marfa. It's a teeny tiny town in far far West Texas that, thanks to a few amazing artist in the 70's has become a little hub for quirky shit and weird things and also really awesome art. But seriously it's in the middle of nowhere. Driving into Marfa, you're going to be like:
"Why am I in West Texas? What is happening? Where are people? Who am I? Was that a McDonalds or am I hallucinating? I kind of like this. I think I'm maybe a little high from staring at absolutely nothing for so long. Turn up the Serial podcast this shit is LIT. OHMYGOD is that a Prada store in the middle of nowhere I'm so totally high and turnt what is happening. Oh, no, wait that is a Prada wait we're getting close to Marfa ohmygod bae we have to Instagram this."
And then you'll be in Marfa and then you will be happy.
As far as the art goes, well, you're not really allowed to photograph much so you'll just have to take our word for it that it's worth the trip, because it is. For art stuffs, you're going to want to look into the Chinati Foundation, because even though it sounds like a futuristic robot-run government that will make the world horrible for humans circa 2134, it's actually a really dope foundation that has helped organize a lot of the art, installations, and exhibits within Martha.
While our short day here didn't leave much time for nomming and drinking, definitely check out Squeeze for breaky or coffee, Cochineal for dinner, and also there's this pho place called Marpho that we didn't have a chance to go to but um we really wanted to and you should try it and tell us how it feels eating Vietnamese food in the middle of the Texas desert.
So we don't have a ton of photos from our trip, but basically when you go to Marfa you'll spend a lot of time looking at a lot of art and admiring the stunning beauty of the terrain of West Texas. It's outstandingly gorgeous. You'll be surrounded by a huge variety of really amazing and equally weird people who are kind of adventurous - oh and everyone was really nice. Not "really nice" in that southern charm way we're used to, but really nice in that "we're all spending our time walking around the middle of no where looking at art so we probably have a lot in common let's all be friends" kind of way.
Anyhow, now we're in LA! And you can come drink with us and talk all about our next southwestern adventure on our next live happy hour this Tuesday at 4pm PST / 7 pm EST! Here's the link : happy hour with us! Ok byeeee, turning up the Katy Perry and getting our full Cali girl lifestyle on!
